Basque journalist released from jail in Madrid
Basque journalist Pepe Rei (C) is hugged by a sympathizer wearing a mask symbolizing lack of free expression as a second supporter looks on after he was released from jail in Madrid June 13, 2001. Spain's High Court ordered Rei to be freed after five months in prison, when it found he did not select targets for armed Basque separatist group ETA as alleged. The release of Pepe Rei, editor of radical Basque nationalist magazine Ardi Beltza (Black Sheep) came a day after a request for an investigation into two other Basque journalists for publishing an interview with ETA guerrillas was turned down.
