Miners wait

Miners wait to have their loads of sulphur, extracted from Kawah Ijen volcanic crater, weighed at a collection centre in East Java May 31, 2008. Kawah Ijen's sulphur miners trek over 8 km (5 miles) from the crater to a collection centre with loads weighing between 50 to 100 kg (110 - 220 pounds) on their shoulders to earn the equivalent of $7 a day. Around 10 tonnes of sulphur are extracted daily from the volcanic crater and are then used in sugar refineries, cosmetics, medicines and explosives.
